If you are interested in minoring in music, the Conservatory of Music offers several options. For most minors, you will need to audition either during the annual audition days or just before the start of the semester. Students admitted to the music minor program will be assigned a faculty advisor to direct their course of study.

Minor in Jazz Studies

If you have an interest in jazz but want to major in another area, this minor is for you. Typically, applicants played in their high school jazz ensemble and want to continue their personal musical development and exploration. Comprising 20 units, the Jazz Studies Minor still gives students the opportunity for applied lessons and participation in ensembles. For specific course requirements, please refer to the University's General Catalog.

Minor in Music History

This minor is only open to music majors. Students must complete a minimum of 22 units and 7 courses, which include four upper division music history courses, one semester of German, one additional course in the liberal arts and a semester of individualized research. For specific course requirements, please refer to the University's General Catalog.

Minor in Music Theory

This minor is available only to music majors (except Music Composition) as a secondary area to extend knowledge of music, support performance activities or build on your compositional interests. Students must complete a minimum of 22 units and 7 courses, which include upper division study in music analysis, counterpoint, orchestration and computer music. For specific course requirements, please refer to the University's General Catalog.

Minor in Music Management

Explore career options in the music and entertainment industries while pursuing any other major area of study. Students must complete a minimum of 20 units and 6 courses, which include two foundational courses and an internship while consulting with the Program Director to choose additional coursework within a range of music management courses that will best match your individual areas of interest. No audition or performance of music is required to earn this minor. For specific course requirements, please refer to the University's General Catalog.
